SIM São Paulo 2018 - Day 2
The second day of SIM São Paulo started a bit slow as fatigue starts to set in. Things move fast and it’s pretty busy trying to network and see showcases. Luckily in the morning panel and endorsements a band advertised their showcase and I got to see the Black Pantera. Tribal beats, groove a la Living Colour, old school metal, a really nice blend showing that Brazilian metal is alive and well.
I had been told the previous night of this Portuguese “phenomenon”, Conan Osiris, and that is Hoult check him out. I’m not sure what to make of it but it was a... shall we say... interesting show.
During the day, in one of several networking moments, I got to meet Tuyo, who Tainá Mota had mentioned to me in the studio, back in Portugal. They told me they had a showcase and I had to check it out (or Tainá might have killed me when we got back in the studio). It was a very cool show and I highly recommend checking them out!
It was then time to go the evening part of SIM. Tonight it would begin at Instituto Brincantes for another Connecting Dots event. After having some nice Portuguese food, I went inside to see their performance of Filipe Catto. It was a nice surprise and the inclusion of a cover of Canção do Engate by António Variações was a very nice surprise. Then Silibrina came on stage and blew the roof! Super nice Brazilian instrumental fusion with a great groove and musicianship!
It was time to go to Jazz Nos Fundos and check out the Jazz Re:freshed showcase. It was a packed house and I was getting really tired but I’m glad I went because I got to see Kokoroko perform. It was a great performance, super nice groove and tasteful playing. The Afro Beat scene in London continues strong.
